WHO IT HELPS & HOW TO USE IT
How to use the GPA calculator
Add each course’s credits and letter grade, choose credit-weighted or unweighted, then read your GPA and nearest letter.
Add courses with credit hours (or units) and a letter grade from the 4.0 map.
Choose Credit-weighted (recommended) or Unweighted equal courses.
Read the live GPA, quality points, and letter chip; adjust rows to model what-if changes.
Before you rely on the result: This uses a common US 4.0 plus/minus map. It is not a transcript or registrar tool. High-school Honors/AP bumps belong on the high school GPA page; prior cumulative credits belong on the college GPA page.
Each letter maps to grade points on a 4.0 scale. Quality points are grade points × credits. Divide total quality points by total credits for a credit-weighted GPA. Unweighted mode averages the point values and ignores credits.
Worked example: Biology 4 cr A (4.0), History 3 cr B+ (3.3), Algebra 3 cr B (3.0) → quality points 16 + 9.9 + 9 = 34.9; credits 10; GPA 3.490.
Multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add those quality points, then divide by total credits. Example: 3 credits of A (4.0) and 3 credits of B (3.0) → (12 + 9) ÷ 6 = 3.5 GPA.
What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA here?
Unweighted averages the letter-grade point values equally. Credit-weighted GPA weights each course by credit hours (or units). This tool’s “weighted” toggle means credit-weighted on a 4.0 map—not high-school Honors/AP bumps.
Which letter-to-points scale does this GPA calculator use?
Standard US 4.0 plus/minus: A=4.0, A−=3.7, B+=3.3, B=3.0, B−=2.7, C+=2.3, C=2.0, C−=1.7, D+=1.3, D=1.0, D−=0.7, F=0. Your school’s map may differ.
Can I use this as a university GPA calculator?
Yes for a simple term GPA on a 4.0 scale. For college credit hours plus prior cumulative GPA, use the college GPA calculator.
Does this convert percentage grades to GPA?
Enter letter grades on this page. The college GPA calculator can map percents to the same 4.0 points when your school uses that conversion.
Why might my official GPA differ?
Schools may exclude certain courses, use different plus/minus cutoffs, apply repeats/forgiveness, or round differently. Always follow your registrar’s rules.
