LESS BUSYWORK. MORE TEACHING.

Semester Grade Calculator

Combine quarter, term, midterm, and final percentages with syllabus weights into one semester grade.

Semester formula & example

Combine quarter, term, midterm, and final percentages with syllabus weights into one semester grade.

Example: Q1 88% (25%) + Q2 84% (25%) + midterm 90% (20%) + final 86% (30%) = 86.8%.

WHO IT HELPS & HOW TO USE IT

How to use the semester grade calculator

Enter each graded component’s percent and weight, confirm weights total ~100%, then optionally solve for remaining work.

  1. Add components (quarters, midterms, finals, modules) with grade % and weight %.
  2. Check that weights sum to about 100%, or use the normalized average warning.
  3. Optionally enable what-if to find the score needed on leftover weight.

Before you rely on the result: Assumes percentage grades and independent weights. Does not drop lowest scores, apply curves, or enforce school rounding.

How semester grades combine

Semester % = Σ (gradei × weighti / 100)

If weights do not total 100%, a normalized form uses weighti / Σ weights so relative importance is preserved while you fix the syllabus numbers.

What-if leftover: needed = (target − Σ completed contributions) ÷ (remaining weight / 100).

For a single current average and one final exam, prefer the final grade calculator. For GPA across courses, use a GPA calculator.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Semester Grade Calculator FAQ

What is a semester grade calculator?

It combines term, quarter, midterm, module, or final percentages using syllabus weights that should sum to about 100%. Example: Q1 88% at 25%, Q2 84% at 25%, midterm 90% at 20%, final 86% at 30% → 86.8% semester.

Can I use this as a quarter grade calculator or module grade calculator?

Yes. Rename components to quarters, modules, or terms and set each weight from your syllabus. The math is the same weighted average.

What if my weights do not add to 100%?

The tool warns you and shows a weight-normalized average so proportions still make sense. Fix the weights when you can so they match the syllabus.

How does the what-if leftover grade work?

Enter completed components with their weights, enable what-if, set your target semester percent and the remaining weight. The calculator solves for the score needed on the remaining work.

Is this the same as a final grade calculator?

Related but different. The final grade calculator assumes one current average plus one remaining final. This page combines multiple named terms/exams with explicit weights.

Does this produce a letter grade?

Yes, using a common plus/minus percentage map for display. Confirm cutoffs with your school’s grading scale.
