Test Grader

Enter points earned or correct answers. See your percentage and letter grade.

A test grade calculator divides points earned by total possible points and multiplies by 100. Use correct answers only when all questions have equal value; otherwise enter actual points awarded. Decimal marks and extra credit are supported, and letter grades follow your chosen scale.

Example: 18 out of 20 gives 18 ÷ 20 × 100 = 90%, an A on the standard A–F scale.

THE 100-POINT REFERENCE

Points-to-percentage chart

For a test worth exactly 100 points, earned points equal the percentage. All 201 half-point scores from 0 to 100 are listed below in static HTML. This reference always uses the standard A–F scale, without bonus points.

For a different total, decimal step, extra credit, or custom scale, use the calculator above. Its live chart is separate from this fixed reference.

WHO IT HELPS & HOW TO USE IT

How to use test grader

For students checking a marked quiz and teachers converting awarded points into a percentage.

  1. Enter the possible points and earned points. Use answer counts only when every question has the same value.
  2. Include extra credit in the earned score or as a separate bonus, once. Decimal scores such as 18.5 out of 25 are supported.
  3. Read the percentage and letter, then select standard, plus/minus, or custom thresholds under Grading scale.

Before you rely on the result: This page starts from points earned. Counting wrong answers uses a different workflow in Calculator Grader. The fixed 100-point reference does not change with calculator settings.

UNDERSTAND YOUR RESULT

Test grader for quizzes and short exams

Percentage = (points earned + separate bonus) ÷ possible points × 100

Enter the points you earned and the points available. An 18.5 out of 25 quiz gives 18.5 ÷ 25 × 100 = 74%. If every question has the same value, you can use the number correct and total question count instead.

For questions with different values, add the awarded marks and enter the total earned points. A correct-answer count alone would treat a one-point question and a five-point question as equal.

Extra credit can raise the percentage above 100%. Enter it in your earned score or as separate bonus points, but do not count the same bonus twice. Choose your school’s letter thresholds under Grading scale.

Quiz grader: one question count, one class

Use this quiz grader for a marked quiz when you know the points earned or the number correct. Correct-answer counts work only when each question has the same value; otherwise add the awarded marks.

For a stack of papers graded by missed answers, use the calculator grader. For student names, a shared test total, and a class CSV, use the teacher grader.

Test Grader: frequently asked questions

Does this page or the calculator grader page match my grading method?

Start here when you know points earned or correct answers; use the calculator grader page when you are counting wrong answers or points lost. Use the teacher grader for a named class roster and CSV results.

How do I include extra credit on a test?

Enter a score above the possible points directly, or put the bonus in Additional bonus points. For 25 earned out of 20 possible, the result is 125%. Do not add the bonus in both places.

Does this support decimal quiz scores?

Yes. Enter values such as 18.5 earned out of 25 possible. The decimal setting changes the displayed percentage; letter grades use the unrounded result.

Can I use the number of correct answers instead of points?

Yes, when every question has equal value. Use correct answers as points earned and question count as possible points. Otherwise enter the actual marks awarded.
